Cruising with an Infant on Disney Cruise Line

Have you thought about taking the plunge and doing a Disney Cruise, but then quickly get your head out of the clouds and realize that you have a kiddo between the age of 6 to 18 months?

Ok, many of you may think what I am about to say is absolutely crazy but if you have a 6 month - 18 month old child, GET ON THE DISNEY CRUISE SHIP!  This will absolutely be the easiest vacation you will ever take with a young child of any age!

My family and I just returned from a 7 night Western Caribbean cruise on the beautiful Disney Magic.  We have two beautiful girls, age 7 and 8 months old, and I can honestly say that taking this cruise with our girls was the easiest week my husband and I have spent during a vacation!

So let's talk about what made this trip so much easier than others.
  1. With a few exceptions, almost all of the food is included in the price of your cruise!  Our 8 month old has allergies to dairy, gluten, and soy.  The first night we were there, we talked with our head server and from that moment on he had freshly made puréed meals for every meal for our little one.  He would tell us at dinner each night where to pick them up!  He even had a purée brought out to Castaway Cay for her lunch!  I didn't have to bring extra food with us or worry about making it or figure it out, he did all of that!
  2. Since Disney caters to families, they have many baby convenience options.  Some of these include: strollers for rent at ports, wagons to use free of charge at Castaway Cay, Diaper Genies to use in your stateroom free of charge, pack and plays to use in your stateroom free of charge, bottle warmers to use for a refundable deposit, family restrooms that contain changing tables and so much more!  This means that you don't have to bring all this extra stuff with you!  How awesome is that?  If you travel anywhere else you are on your own for these items.
  3. Disney has top notch nursery workers and security.  When we entered the nursery, the crew member greeted us and our sweet girl with a smile and a song. Literally.  She started singing to her!  This made the transition for our little one so much easier and we were more at ease as well.  The cast member then asks for your "secret word" to ensure you are who you say you are and then they take your child back to the play area.  When you pick up your child its the same process in reverse.  Unless your key to the world card and the secret word matches the child's account, you cannot pick up that child!  Man, that made this paranoid momma feel better!

So, now you may be asking what tips do you have?  Well, as you can imagine,  I have a few!

  1. Switch to drop in style bottles.  We switched our daughter to drop in style bottles before the trip and man was this so much more convenient!
  2. Bring or rent a small stroller.  We used ours in the dining room each night since we had late dining which allowed her to eat and then snooze!
  3. Bring a blanket, those dining rooms get cold!
  4. If you baby wear, bring your gear.  I used my carriers exclusively on excursions.  They even make water slings for wearing your baby in the water!
  5. Bring a float from home for your baby to use at Castaway Cay and other beaches!  We used one from Swim Ways that had a canopy and was spring folded for compact packing.
  6. Bring sand toys or plan to buy them.  Our sweet girls played in the sand for hours when we were on the beach in Cozumel and Castaway Cay!
  7. Don't worry about a schedule.  We let our girl eat and sleep when she wanted and it worked out great! After all, it was her vacation too!
  8. Enjoy it! We love Disney and we love cruising and it is evident both of our girls do too!

Cruising with a Baby: A Complete Guide

You took a baby on a cruise!? Yep, and I'd do it again knowing what I know now. So, say goodbye to months of research - Everything you need to know is here!! One of the biggest challenges of traveling with a baby is planning what you need to bring. I wanted to share what worked for us, and hopefully help others who are planning their cruise! Remember, babies can only cruise after their 6-month birthday on sailings from the U.S. If you are going transatlantic, or have more than three days out at sea, they must be 12 months old by the first day of your cruise. Pre-Cruise   We flew to the cruise port, and I couldn’t bring all the food and snacks I needed, so I placed an Instacart order for pick up near the port. I chose Publix in Cocoa Beach which is a few miles from Port Canaveral. I placed the order a few days before we left home, and set the pickup time to 11:00 a.m. I ordered formula, a box of diapers, swim diapers, bottle brush, dish soap, baby food, and baby snacks. I also broug

Complete Guide to Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Disney's new Bahamian island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a pristine, secluded paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. The cruise port is located on the island of Eleuthera (pronounced uh-loo-tr-uh) at it's southern tip, amidst a nature preserve called Lighthouse Point. Far from any towns, Lookout Cay feels like a tropical oasis that is separated from the outside world by mangrove forests. The landscaping is gorgeous with flowers like plumerias, and tall swaying palm trees. Whether you want to just kick back and relax or go for a thrilling banana boat ride, this port has something for everyone. There are family friendly areas as well as those reserved specifically for adults. Expert Tip: If you want a view of the island from your stateroom, be sure to book a starboard (right) side stateroom. Disney Magic docked at Lookout Cay After disembarking your Disney Cruise ship, you'll cross the pier to the island on foot. (It looks longer in

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th
