2015 Star Wars Weekends

Greetings to all!  I wanted to share with you our experience from Star Wars Weekend at Walt Disney World.  Let me start out by saying that I did not truly know what to expect and the dynamics going into Hollywood Studios on the first official weekend, but boy, I was impressed!  I, myself, had never watched any of the Star Wars movies until my 6 year old son got into the whole Star Wars collection.  His fascination began last year at Hollywood Studios where my tiny Jedi battled Darth Maul, during a “normal” day (Normal days are always magical on Disney property).  From there, we started buying the toys, and since Star Wars Rebels has come out, his life has forever changed.  When we saw in our schedule that Star Wars Weekend would be possible this year, we seized the opportunity and booked it for a special treat for our little man.

When we arrived at Hollywood Studios early that morning, we were completely blown away at the turnout.  Adults and children alike were decked out in the 90 degree weather in Stormtrooper gear and costumes of all sorts.  We sat next to two adults in the bus on the way over with arms that were tattooed up with Star Wars ink, expressing their true love for the brand, along with Star Wars shirts and hats on.  This event bridged all age gaps and differences, bringing so many together for their love of Star Wars.

We actually purchased a special package for our entire family, as we thought that it would be well worth it.  At first my husband was a little hesitant, until he found out free booze were included.  Then he was sold!  I can tell you it was worth what we paid for it and so much more.  When we arrived for the motorcade, it was truly a party.  The kids (and adults) all feasted on complimentary Mickey bars and ice cream sandwiches, popcorn, and had complimentary bottled water and soft drinks.  We waited in a nice shady area and viewed the parade.  It was truly incredible to see the look on my children’s faces while seeing their favorite characters, and even seeing Mickey, Minnie, and the gang all dressed up as their favorite Star Wars characters.  The parade was awesome, and we loved our front row seats to see the lineup.

Afterwards we enjoyed riding the rides, seeing the sights, and of course the highlight of my little boy’s day- signing up for the Jedi Training Academy and battling Darth Vader himself.  We then went to go and build a light saber for our little buddy that he got to design himself - how cool! He chose the double light saber like Darth Maul’s which can also detach to make two light sabers which I prefer.  Trust me, lots can be broken when you return to the “real world” with a 4 foot boy and a 6 ½ foot light saber!

That night, we enjoyed an absolutely fabulous dessert party as part of our package.  We were highly entertained by on stage performers and an incredible DJ.  My little boy and little girl found some fellow Jedis at a neighboring table to play with.  The desserts were out of this world incredible, and there was so much to choose from.  They had everything from Mickey Bars to so many varieties of Star Wars themed food.  I LOVED the Darth Maul chocolate cupcakes - just fantastic!  They also had many varieties of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, all complimentary.  My husband’s favorite drink there was the “dark side," a white Russian beverage.  He said that the drinks alone were worth the price of the standard premium package that we had paid for.  I, on the other hand, am currently 8 months pregnant and I agree with my husband, but I believe the three dessert plates that I quickly consumed were what made it well worth it!  All jokes aside, this party was awesome; the kids were dancing and happy, with light sabers in hand!

Then, the magic happened.  After a fun and entertaining lineup went on stage, the fireworks began.  Our reserved viewing area was incredible.  The fireworks were beautifully synced up to the music from Star Wars.  We were all in awe.  I had goosebumps, and my little man and our little princess smiled the entire time.  The fireworks were breathtakingly beautiful and so unique.  Definitely set in a league of its own as far as firework shows are concerned.  It was very different from the Magic Kingdom fireworks show and truly set apart.  So unique.  So cool.  So out-of-this-world!  I would recommend this package to anyone!  It truly was an enjoyable experience.

Cruising with a Baby: A Complete Guide

You took a baby on a cruise!? Yep, and I'd do it again knowing what I know now. So, say goodbye to months of research - Everything you need to know is here!! One of the biggest challenges of traveling with a baby is planning what you need to bring. I wanted to share what worked for us, and hopefully help others who are planning their cruise! Remember, babies can only cruise after their 6-month birthday on sailings from the U.S. If you are going transatlantic, or have more than three days out at sea, they must be 12 months old by the first day of your cruise. Pre-Cruise   We flew to the cruise port, and I couldn’t bring all the food and snacks I needed, so I placed an Instacart order for pick up near the port. I chose Publix in Cocoa Beach which is a few miles from Port Canaveral. I placed the order a few days before we left home, and set the pickup time to 11:00 a.m. I ordered formula, a box of diapers, swim diapers, bottle brush, dish soap, baby food, and baby snacks. I also broug

Complete Guide to Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Disney's new Bahamian island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a pristine, secluded paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. The cruise port is located on the island of Eleuthera (pronounced uh-loo-tr-uh) at it's southern tip, amidst a nature preserve called Lighthouse Point. Far from any towns, Lookout Cay feels like a tropical oasis that is separated from the outside world by mangrove forests. The landscaping is gorgeous with flowers like plumerias, and tall swaying palm trees. Whether you want to just kick back and relax or go for a thrilling banana boat ride, this port has something for everyone. There are family friendly areas as well as those reserved specifically for adults. Expert Tip: If you want a view of the island from your stateroom, be sure to book a starboard (right) side stateroom. Disney Magic docked at Lookout Cay After disembarking your Disney Cruise ship, you'll cross the pier to the island on foot. (It looks longer in

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th
