Ears the News with Richard

Ears the News is brought to you courtesy of our friends at  WDWMagic.com . Disney has confirmed the dates for this year's Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The display will begin this year on November 6 2015 through to January 3 2016. An update to Disney's PhotoPass service has added watermarks across images when viewed online at MyDisneyPhotoPass.com. The copy protection watermarks cover a large amount of the image, a technique which is often used to dissuade people from copying an image without making a purchase. Any photo that has not been purchased will show the watermark, both on the index screen, and during any editing (as shown above). If a photo is purchased, or is part of the Memory Maker package, the watermark is removed. Along with the watermarking, Disney has made a couple of other changes to the PhotoPass site. 1.    If purchasing a digital copy of a PhotoPass image online, you will be able to download an...

Oahu, Hawaii Beyond Aulani

So, one of your dreams is to visit Hawaii.  It's a beautiful destination but it's so far away.  From the East Coast it is about a 10 1/2 hour non-stop flight and even longer if you have a connection.  So, when you finally go, you want to be able to spend some time there.  Here are some suggestions to make the most of your visit to the gorgeous island of Oahu. Surfing statue on Waikiki Beach Start your vacation with at least 2-3 days in Waikiki.  You can stay at one of the breathtaking beach front hotels and enjoy beautiful Waikiki Beach!  Waikiki offers tons of recreation, sightseeing and dining options.  For the more adventurous travelers, there are surf board rentals all along the beach.  After you're done riding the waves, take your photo next to the statue of Duke Kahanamoko, the father of modern surfing.  You can find shaved ice for sale in several locations, with flavors you won't find at home.  Near the end of Waikiki beach,...

Ears the News with Richard

Ears the News is brought to you courtesy of our friends at  WDWMagic.com . With the completion of the Disney Vacation Club Villas and Bungalows at Disney's Polynesian Resort, attention is now switching to Disney's Wilderness Lodge, which will undergo a similar expansion to the Polynesian. Disney has started to advise guests arriving in the fall that a number of leisure and recreation amenities will be unavailable from October 26 2015. The main impact will be to the Hidden Springs leisure pool, the resort beach, the playground and the fire pit. During the closure of the leisure pool, the main feature pool will continue to be open as normal. The nature trail, boat and bike rentals, and spa treatments will also be unavailable from October. The project will see the addition of 26 waterside bungalows, similar to the recently opened Bora Bora Bungalows at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, although the Wilderness Lodge units are not built over the water. Also part of ...

2015 Candlelight Processional

In the middle of summer, the Christmas season may be the furthest thing from your mind. But for those planning a Walt Disney World vacation this December, you'll be excited to know that reservations are now available for the 2015 Candlelight Processional Dining Packages!   A beloved annual event at Epcot, the Candlelight Processional is the retelling of the Christmas story by a celebrity guest, a mass choir consisting of cast members and students, the Voices of Liberty, and a 50 piece orchestra. The end result is a beautiful, moving performance that best captures the spirit of Christmas.  It’s absolutely breathtaking, and the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season. The shows take place nightly in the American Gardens Theater in Epcot at 5:00 p.m, 6:45 p.m, and 8:15 p.m.  The best way to guarantee a seat to one of the 3 nightly performances is with a Candlelight Processional Dining package, which can be booked at most of the table service restau...

I Scream for Disney Ice Cream

There are LOTS of places at Walt Disney World to get a frozen treat.  Everything from vanilla ice cream to frozen lemonade to a kitchen sink sundae with every topping imaginable exists throughout the theme parks and resorts.  In no particular order…here are my can’t misses:  Dole Whip Float from Aloha Isle Dole Whip - What used to be an Adventureland exclusive can now also be found at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.  I’m a fan of Dole Whip’s in their purest form—pineapple, in a dish.  You can also get pineapple swirled with vanilla, a float with juice, or (not at Magic Kingdom) the adult version with rum.  I like to get a dish, smell the nacho plant (I’m not the only one who smells it, right?) as I walk over the Adventureland bridge, and enjoy my Dole Whip on the curb of Main Street USA while waiting for the parade. Ice Cream selections at L'Artisan des Glaces L’Artisan des Glaces - I’ll admit, I wasn’t sold on t...

Ears the News with Richard

Ears the News is brought to you courtesy of our friends at  WDWMagic.com . According to Disney's FastPass+, Captain EO will be returning to Epcot on July 19 2015. FastPass+ availability for Captain EO is now available on My Disney Experience for dates from July 19 onward. How long Captain EO will remain is anyone’s guess. Epcot's first rest and relaxation D-Zone area is now open in the Innoventions corridor behind Character Spot. The corridor, which has long been a favorite spot for guests to take a break, is now equipped with tables and chairs, and a kiosk offering snacks and drinks. Along with soft drinks, there are alcoholic beverages and frozen drinks. The D-Zone relaxation area is a continuation of a concept began at Magic Kingdom with the introduction of the Fantasyland Tangled restroom area and the big top area in Storybook Circus. The idea is for people to have a space to cool down, charge the all-important devices, and to take a break from some of the hust...
