Throwback Thursday: Bon Voyage Breakfast

Once upon a time Disney’s newest character breakfast at Walt Disney World was the “Bon Voyage” Character breakfast at Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s Boardwalk.  You got not only a fabulous sit down meal, but you were able to meet and interact with a couple of Disney princesses, Ariel and Rapunzel, and also their rarely-seen mates, Eric and Flynn Ryder.  All four of these Disney characters are my oldest daughter’s favorites, so she was beside herself thinking that she could finally meet all of them at once when this debuted.  I was able to get my family a reservation so we could enjoy this meal and fulfill our princess dreams.

When we first arrived at Trattoria, it was packed, so that was a good sign to me that this was going to be a great experience.  Once we were finally seated, our waitress greeted us, took our drink orders and told us how the characters would come by one at a time.  It wasn’t long before we had our first visitor, Rapunzel.  She was so pleasant and very sweet, taking the time to greet each of my three daughters and tell them all about her life at the castle.  She even asked if we wanted her to sketch in our autograph book.  She took the time to pose for pictures with all three of my girls, plus one with just my oldest daughter. 

After she left, our waitress brought us a frying pan with a variety of pastries in it.  There was a muffin, some braided breakfast bread, a few clamshell pastries and even a beautiful sun cookie, looking exactly like the symbol of the kingdom from “Tangled.”  We actually hated to eat it because it was so pretty, but we knew we couldn’t save it forever, so we did eventually devour it.  We were also brought either a mixed berry parfait or a fresh fruit salad to enjoy.  (both were yummy)  

While we were eating this first course, Prince Eric decided to stop by our table.  He was delightful, as I’m sure you would expect, and rather funny asking us where we had “sailed from” to get to our meal.  We took pictures again with all three girls and then just with my oldest and Prince Eric.

He wasn’t gone long when Flynn Ryder came to our table.  He was probably our favorite.  He was definitely charming and quite a smooth talker.  He also loved to talk about himself, but that is actually part of what we love about Flynn!  He probably spent the most amount of time with us too.  He told us he did have a thing for blondes (which I have three in my family), but he’s now leaning towards brunettes since Rapunzel did turn into a brunette after cutting her hair.  My daughter did ask him if he would give her “the smolder,” which he did, and she was impressed.  We did hear before we came to ask him if he would show us what is in his satchel, so we did.  Spoiler alert:  He is carrying “Blondie’s” crown, for safe keeping of course, and no, he wouldn’t let anyone try it on because he said it only looks good on her.  Before he left us, he gave each of the girls a card with all of the characters’ autographs on it. Each of the characters did do individual autographs in our autograph book, so we appreciated that extra touch)  He also took several pics with my oldest since she was simply enamored with him. 

The last character to visit us was Ariel.  She was so cute, asking about my girls’ dinglehoppers and loved telling us all that Eric shows her in his Kingdom.  When we asked her if we could take pictures with her, my dad jumped up and said he has always wanted to take his picture with a redhead.  (It was pretty funny!) After he took his picture with her, then my three daughters took their picture with Ariel.

Our breakfasts arrived as soon as she left our table.  We ordered several of the options on the menu, such as the Tower of Pancakes, Eggs Poached Underwater, the Royale Breakfast and the Tangled Eggs.  All of our choices were delicious and we left stuffed.  Overall, we loved the meal and the character experiences.
