Trying Out Mobile Order Dining at Disney Springs!

Hey there, Disney Guys and Gals!

I hope everyone had an awesome January and is ready to roll on into February! Here in Orlando, we have been enjoying some cooler weather and quieter parks, which makes it one of my favorite times of the year! Although I do have to say that there really isn't a "slow season" anymore at Disney. Disney Marketing has found a whole bunch of genius ways to rope in the crowds at all times of year, mostly by adding festivals, like Festival of the Arts, and special events like Star Wars Galactic Nights and the After Hours events at The Magic Kingdom. Instead of "off-season", or "slow season", I'll just say "slowER season". How's that?

Anyway, we all know that even in the slowest of seasons, one thing that is never NOT busy at Disney is counter service dining locations. The park can be virtually empty, yet Cosmic Ray's still seems to manage to draw a crowd. Same thing at all of the Disney Springs dining locations around lunchtime, so since I happened to find myself there last week, right around noontime, with two hungry kiddos, I decided to try out one of Disney's newer offerings: Mobile Orders. What is the magical wonder, you ask? Well, done through the My Disney Experience App, Guests at designated Disney counter service locations can peruse menus, pre-order and pre-pay for their meals, minimizing the wait time at the location and eliminating the need to wait in line. AMAZING! I had to see for myself if it was all that I dreamed.

We tried it out at the one dining location at Disney Springs that offers it, D-Luxe Burger. I hadn't planned in advance to use the pre-ordering service, but when we showed up at the location, the line was outside of the building, and wrapping around the back, so I decided to give it a whirl.

Ease

It was pretty simple to use. Once I selected the option for "Order Food" from the "My Plans" section of the My Disney Experience App, a list of the available dining locations appeared. I scrolled to D-Luxe Burger, and when I clicked on it, I was directed to their hours, pricing average, dining experience type, cuisine type and a quick description of the food that is offered. From there, it gave me options to find the location on a map, get directions to the location, or order food. Once I clicked "Order Food", it took me to the location's menu, including descriptions and pricing. As I clicked on each item I wanted to add, it allowed me to edit the number of items, as well as customize toppings, etc. In this, case, I could change my burger from having a bun, to have a lettuce wrap, and I could add toppings. It is important to note that Mobile Order Dining does NOT currently accommodate allergies, (and likely will not in the near future, either), because allergies require that the customer views a specific allergen menu and that they place an order with a chef, manager or in some cases, cashier.

After finishing my order, the app then made recommendations of add-on items, like a milkshake or fries. (Those Disney Marketing geniuses, at it again!) I was tempted, but I stuck to my original order. (Haha! I have outsmarted you THIS time, Marketing Evil Geniuses!) I then was able to review my order, before entering a payment method. You may pay with credit card, debit card or by using your Disney Dining Plan credits. If you would like to pay in cash, with a Disney Gift Card or apply any discounts, you will have to visit the register to order. After paying, the app popped up a button, saying "I'm Here! Prepare My Order!" Since I was already standing in front of the restaurant, I pushed it right away, but for those who are ordering while still in line for a ride, or simply while planning their day, you can always open up the app, and tap the button when ready. Finally, when the food is ready, the app will send you a notification, telling you to pick up your food at the "Mobile Ordering" counter. Super easy! (In the case of D-Luxe Burger, I was actually notified right away to proceed to the counter to pick up a pager. The Cast Member then gave me a pager to put on my table and sent me on my merry way. I wouldn't even have to pick up my food... they'd bring it to ME! Sweet!)

Speed

So as I mentioned, the line was looooong. I'd say a good 100 people deep, if not more. I kept an eye on the family that would have been in front of me, had I gotten in line instead of placing the Mobile Order. They had not even reached the counter to PLACE their order, when my food was headed to the table! From the time I ordered, to the time the food was in front of me was maybe 15 minutes, tops. That's pretty awesome!

Accuracy

My order was 100%, on the money! Exactly what I ordered, as I had ordered it. No condiments that should not have been there, no over-cooked burger... perfect!

Overall, I was super impressed with the Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering option and would love to use it again. There's a growing number of restaurants that have it available as an option.

Here's the current list:
  • ABC Commissary
  • Aloha Isle

Cruising with a Baby: A Complete Guide

You took a baby on a cruise!? Yep, and I'd do it again knowing what I know now. So, say goodbye to months of research - Everything you need to know is here!! One of the biggest challenges of traveling with a baby is planning what you need to bring. I wanted to share what worked for us, and hopefully help others who are planning their cruise! Remember, babies can only cruise after their 6-month birthday on sailings from the U.S. If you are going transatlantic, or have more than three days out at sea, they must be 12 months old by the first day of your cruise. Pre-Cruise   We flew to the cruise port, and I couldn’t bring all the food and snacks I needed, so I placed an Instacart order for pick up near the port. I chose Publix in Cocoa Beach which is a few miles from Port Canaveral. I placed the order a few days before we left home, and set the pickup time to 11:00 a.m. I ordered formula, a box of diapers, swim diapers, bottle brush, dish soap, baby food, and baby snacks. I also broug

Complete Guide to Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Disney's new Bahamian island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a pristine, secluded paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. The cruise port is located on the island of Eleuthera (pronounced uh-loo-tr-uh) at it's southern tip, amidst a nature preserve called Lighthouse Point. Far from any towns, Lookout Cay feels like a tropical oasis that is separated from the outside world by mangrove forests. The landscaping is gorgeous with flowers like plumerias, and tall swaying palm trees. Whether you want to just kick back and relax or go for a thrilling banana boat ride, this port has something for everyone. There are family friendly areas as well as those reserved specifically for adults. Expert Tip: If you want a view of the island from your stateroom, be sure to book a starboard (right) side stateroom. Disney Magic docked at Lookout Cay After disembarking your Disney Cruise ship, you'll cross the pier to the island on foot. (It looks longer in

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th
