Universal Orlando Resort & COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

Since the theme parks in Orlando have reopened, the Universal Orlando Resort has implemented some new safety guidelines in response to the coronavirus pandemic. I'm sure you're wondering what it's like to take a Universal vacation right now and you might not be sure if you'd like to visit with the safety guidelines in place. We visited in September to see for ourselves and to report back to you on our experience.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, Universal has enhanced their sanitization procedures and implemented additional measures to encourage social distancing. Universal is asking that all guests and Team Members comply with the following guidelines:

  • Face covering required - Everyone is required to wear a face covering during their visit except for children under the age of 3, when actively eating or drinking, and when at a designated U-Rest area.
  • Wash hands often -  Wash your hands with soap and water often for at least 20 seconds. (This seems like a no-brainer even in non-COVID times!)
  • Floor markings - When available, please stand on floor markings to keep 6ft of distance between you and the party in front of you.
  • Use hand sanitizer when required - At select attractions, guests will be required to use hand sanitizer before boarding ride vehicles.
  • Temperature check required - All guests will be required to have their temperature checked upon arrival. Guests with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater will not be admitted.
  • Social distancing - Practice social distancing and keep at least 6 feet (2 meters) between your travel party and other guests.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick
  • Follow Team Member direction - Please follow directions from the Universal Team Members and have patience as they work through all these new operating procedures.

So what can you expect from touring the parks with these guidelines? Here are some of our biggest takeaways from our experience.

You'll see a lot of signage around the resorts and theme parks that remind you of the safety guidelines. So don't worry about memorizing any guidelines because you will be reminded by signage and by Team Members throughout your stay. You'll also see plexiglass partitions at check-in counters, between rows on some attractions and between booths at some dining locations.

Hand sanitizing stations were plentiful! I brought my own travel size container of hand sanitizer to the parks but it was almost unnecessary. Occasionally I would find a dispenser that was out of sanitizer but it was very rare. We were given hand sanitizer by Team Members before some attractions and there would often be hand sanitizing stations as we exited the attractions.

I know a big concern a lot of guests have is with wearing a mask all day in the hot Florida sun. Although it is required to wear a face covering at all times, except while actively eating or drinking, there are U-Rest areas where you can take a break and remove your mask. There are two U-Rest locations at Universal Studios Florida (Central Park and FEAR FACTOR LIVE), three locations at Universal's Islands of Adventure (The Lost Continent Stadium, Port of Entry Landing, and SEUSS LANDING), and one location at Universal CityWalk (Hard Rock Cafe Landing). You still must remain socially distant from other guests while in the U-Rest area but it's a nice spot to take a break without having to wear your face covering. We stopped at several U-Rest areas throughout our visit to take a quick break and found the locations well spaced out throughout the parks.

We found that it was very easy to go through the temperature screenings. I was worried it might delay us getting to the parks but we never experienced any delay. There are actually several options for temperature screenings. If you are staying at a Universal Orlando Resort Hotel, you can get your temperature checked in the lobby or before you board the water taxi to the parks from your Premier or Preferred hotel. If you use the walking path from your resort to Universal CityWalk, there's also a temperature screening area before you enter CityWalk. Guests traveling by complimentary shuttle bus from their resort or car will get temperature screenings before they enter CityWalk.

We were pleasantly surprised seeing the safety guidelines in action and with the level of guest compliance. Although we felt comfortable and safe visiting, it's up to you to decide your own comfort level.

Cruising with a Baby: A Complete Guide

You took a baby on a cruise!? Yep, and I'd do it again knowing what I know now. So, say goodbye to months of research - Everything you need to know is here!! One of the biggest challenges of traveling with a baby is planning what you need to bring. I wanted to share what worked for us, and hopefully help others who are planning their cruise! Remember, babies can only cruise after their 6-month birthday on sailings from the U.S. If you are going transatlantic, or have more than three days out at sea, they must be 12 months old by the first day of your cruise. Pre-Cruise   We flew to the cruise port, and I couldn’t bring all the food and snacks I needed, so I placed an Instacart order for pick up near the port. I chose Publix in Cocoa Beach which is a few miles from Port Canaveral. I placed the order a few days before we left home, and set the pickup time to 11:00 a.m. I ordered formula, a box of diapers, swim diapers, bottle brush, dish soap, baby food, and baby snacks. I also broug

Complete Guide to Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Disney's new Bahamian island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a pristine, secluded paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. The cruise port is located on the island of Eleuthera (pronounced uh-loo-tr-uh) at it's southern tip, amidst a nature preserve called Lighthouse Point. Far from any towns, Lookout Cay feels like a tropical oasis that is separated from the outside world by mangrove forests. The landscaping is gorgeous with flowers like plumerias, and tall swaying palm trees. Whether you want to just kick back and relax or go for a thrilling banana boat ride, this port has something for everyone. There are family friendly areas as well as those reserved specifically for adults. Expert Tip: If you want a view of the island from your stateroom, be sure to book a starboard (right) side stateroom. Disney Magic docked at Lookout Cay After disembarking your Disney Cruise ship, you'll cross the pier to the island on foot. (It looks longer in

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th
