Mythos Restaurant at Universal's Islands of Adventure

Located on The Lost Continent of Universal's Islands of Adventure, Mythos is an award-winning, full-service restaurant that offers an otherworldly experience. If you've ever been to Universal's Islands of Adventure, you've undoubtedly walked by this restaurant with its towering rock formations, waterfalls and ancient figures carved into the side of the building. The restaurant has been calling to me for years and I was finally able to give it a try.

When you enter the restaurant, it feels like you've entered a cavernous grotto from another world. There are oceanic and mythical touches throughout the indoor dining room and there's also outdoor seating with great views of the park.

The menu features a mix of Mediterranean, Asian and American cuisine including Spanakopita Dip, Pad Thai and a Bacon Cheeseburger. There's also a kids menu for little ones and a dessert menu featuring Chocolate Banana Gooey Cake.

On our first visit to Mythos, we decided to split the Shrimp Sushi Katsu Roll appetizer. We were very pleased with our choice! The flash fried panko crust gave it the perfect amount of crunch and the sweet soy, wasabi aioli was delicious. I would absolutely order this starter again.

For my entree, I went with the wedge salad. After a few days eating not-so-healthy theme park favorites, I was in dire need of a salad. You really can't go wrong with a wedge salad. (Anyone else think of Phil Dunphy from Modern Family when they order a wedge salad?) I'll probably order something different the next time I visit but that's not because of anything negative with the salad.
Wedge Salad
Crisp iceberg lettuce, blue cheese vinaigrette, cherry tomatoes, red onion, bacon crumbles, croutons
My husband ordered the Gnocchi Bolognese and he really liked it. He said he'd order it again so I'd count that as a win. I tried a bite and also really enjoyed it. It had me doubting my choice of the wedge salad but I needed something light and a little healthier.

I dined at Mythos again recently and was able to try some additional menu items. For our starter, we tried the Spanakopita Dip. I wasn't sure if I would like this appetizer but it was really enjoyable. There were three of us dining and although we could have used more pita chips, I thought the appetizer was a good size for sharing. We were each able to enjoy enough of the dip but not feel overly full before our entrees arrived.
Spanakopita Dip
Spinach, feta cheese, lemon and fresh herbs, served hot with fresh pita chips seasoned with za'atar spice, with fresh cucumber, tomato and olive
On this visit, I tried the Pan Roasted Wild Salmon and I am so glad I ordered this entrée! It was absolutely delicious! Our server told us that it's been on the menu since they opened so it should be no surprise that it's a favorite. It's going to be difficult for me to order another entrée from this restaurant now that I've had the salmon. I don't want to oversell it, but it's that good.
Pan Roasted Wild Salmon
Roasted carrot puree, fingerling potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, baby spinach, crispy shaved asparagus and macerated red grapes
My friends ordered the Heart of Romaine Caesar with Salmon and the Catch of the Day. I don't remember what the fish was for the Catch of the Day but I know my friend loved her dish as well. Everyone was very pleased when we were done with lunch.

Crisp romaine, roasted plum tomato, charred pita, house made Caesar dressing, shaved Parmesan
Catch of the Day
Chefs daily selection of the freshest sustainable fish served with Ajvar spiced couscous, fennel and red pepper relish, sautéed haricot vests and ponzu butter sauce
I also ordered a specialty drink on my most recent visit. I went with the Mythos Potion of the Gods. This was another great choice this meal! It's Malibu Coconut rum, Captain Morgan Spiced rum, black raspberry liqueur, orange, cranberry, pineapple juices with a float of Cruzan 137 rum. It was a hot day and this drink was super refreshing. It's definitely sweet with all the fruit juices but I didn't find it to be overly sweet.

Dining reservations are suggested, for lunch or dinner, and can be made online through the restaurant's page on the Universal Orlando Resort website or by calling 407-224-3663. (Don't forget, your Kingdom Konsultant agent can also help you with making reservations.) We did not have advance dining reservations on either of our visits but we were able to get a table after a short wait.
We really enjoy Mythos and I can definitely see myself visiting this restaurant again and again. It's a great option if you're looking for a full service meal within the theme parks.

Cruising with a Baby: A Complete Guide

You took a baby on a cruise!? Yep, and I'd do it again knowing what I know now. So, say goodbye to months of research - Everything you need to know is here!! One of the biggest challenges of traveling with a baby is planning what you need to bring. I wanted to share what worked for us, and hopefully help others who are planning their cruise! Remember, babies can only cruise after their 6-month birthday on sailings from the U.S. If you are going transatlantic, or have more than three days out at sea, they must be 12 months old by the first day of your cruise. Pre-Cruise   We flew to the cruise port, and I couldn’t bring all the food and snacks I needed, so I placed an Instacart order for pick up near the port. I chose Publix in Cocoa Beach which is a few miles from Port Canaveral. I placed the order a few days before we left home, and set the pickup time to 11:00 a.m. I ordered formula, a box of diapers, swim diapers, bottle brush, dish soap, baby food, and baby snacks. I also broug

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th

Complete Guide to Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Disney's new Bahamian island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a pristine, secluded paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. The cruise port is located on the island of Eleuthera (pronounced uh-loo-tr-uh) at it's southern tip, amidst a nature preserve called Lighthouse Point. Far from any towns, Lookout Cay feels like a tropical oasis that is separated from the outside world by mangrove forests. The landscaping is gorgeous with flowers like plumerias, and tall swaying palm trees. Whether you want to just kick back and relax or go for a thrilling banana boat ride, this port has something for everyone. There are family friendly areas as well as those reserved specifically for adults. Expert Tip: If you want a view of the island from your stateroom, be sure to book a starboard (right) side stateroom. Disney Magic docked at Lookout Cay After disembarking your Disney Cruise ship, you'll cross the pier to the island on foot. (It looks longer in
