RCCL Independence of the Seas: Day 2

Hello from our first full day on Independence of the Seas.  After a restful night's sleep, we were looking forward to our day at sea and some beautiful Caribbean weather.  We were greeted by a double rainbow off our balcony and knew we were in for a great day ahead. We opted to start our day with breakfast in the Main Dining Room and easily made a reservation via the Royal Caribbean App to make that happen.

The ship was eerily empty this morning, but once again all the crew members were excited to see us and wished us a wonderful day ahead.  Even with so few people, the signage for social distancing and opportunities for hand sanitizer were all over the ship.

Breakfast in the Main Dining Room starts with assorted baked goods and we enjoyed a cinnamon roll, fruit tart (my favorite) and a croissant. We then went on to have an omelet, eggs benedict, and blueberry pancakes. The omelet was great because you got to choose your own ingredients so you could have exactly what you wanted.

After breakfast we went to explore the arcade and the sports deck. Unfortunately the sports deck was closed so we just played some skeeball and headed back to our room to get ready for some pool time.  The pool was slightly more crowded today but still very empty. We learned that there are about 600 guests on this simulation cruise, so definitely pretty empty!

Once we had our fill of sunshine and relaxation, it was time to eat once again and we made our way to the Windjammer Café which had tilapia, pork loin, thyme roasted chicken, sweet and sour chicken and stir fry noodles among the choices today.

We enjoyed a stop at the Champagne Bar, which is a little hard to find with limited signage, on our way to Harry Potter Trivia in the Star Lounge.  The Star Lounge is one of the venues available to all guests, so tables were marked for social distancing and it was requested that masks remain on throughout the event. It was a close game with four teams tying with a perfect score, but this girl knows her Harry Potter and won the tiebreaker!

Tonight was formal night and there were lots of shopping deals, photography opportunities, and live music around the ship. We chose to take it easy and relax before getting dolled up for dinner, which we had at Giovanni's Table tonight. Our server was incredible and so was the food.  We were so impressed with our dinner here and I wouldn't hesitate to book it again in the future.  After dinner we took in the headliner show, Mind of a Tenor, before calling it a night.

Linguine alle Vongole - manila clams, garlic, Pinot Grigio

Bucatini alla Bolognese - beef ragu, red wine, basil, San Marzano tomatoes, Parmesan

Tagliatelle alla Carbonara - crispy pancetta, poached egg, carbonara sauce

Another great day in the books, and we are looking forward to Cozumel tomorrow!

Cruising with a Baby: A Complete Guide

You took a baby on a cruise!? Yep, and I'd do it again knowing what I know now. So, say goodbye to months of research - Everything you need to know is here!! One of the biggest challenges of traveling with a baby is planning what you need to bring. I wanted to share what worked for us, and hopefully help others who are planning their cruise! Remember, babies can only cruise after their 6-month birthday on sailings from the U.S. If you are going transatlantic, or have more than three days out at sea, they must be 12 months old by the first day of your cruise. Pre-Cruise   We flew to the cruise port, and I couldn’t bring all the food and snacks I needed, so I placed an Instacart order for pick up near the port. I chose Publix in Cocoa Beach which is a few miles from Port Canaveral. I placed the order a few days before we left home, and set the pickup time to 11:00 a.m. I ordered formula, a box of diapers, swim diapers, bottle brush, dish soap, baby food, and baby snacks. I also broug...

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th...

Universal's Volcano Bay Private Cabana Review

On a recent training in Universal Orlando Resort, the agents rented a private cabana for the day at Universal's Volcano Bay. There are multiple locations around the park along with the option to have an upper or lower level, all of which reflect in various pricing. We received an email the day before informing her of where to check-in the next morning. While we were personally escorted to the cabana shortly after check in, the line at the check in location is the same as those getting towels, meaning it was not short. As expressed by an additional guest checking into a different cabana, we would have greatly appreciated a separate line, since this caused our group about a half hour wait. We're all adults and made great use of our time getting some fun pictures before the park was filled with guests, but this is important to be aware of if you are traveling with children.  We had an upper level Cabana which came with a splendid view! We arrived to a welcome basket of various fr...
