Wilderness Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort Review

In the heart of Walt Disney World, you'll find Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Although the resort is a quick 10-minute boat ride to the Magic Kingdom, you'll feel far removed from the bustling crowds while nestled on 750 acres of lush pine trees. The resort evokes the timeless beauty of the American frontier and is filled with scenic woodland trails, wildlife, and unique recreation. 

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort has two sections; the Campsites and the Cabins. If you're looking to connect with the great outdoors but still enjoy all the conveniences of home, a Wilderness Cabin might be the perfect choice for your next Walt Disney World vacation! 

My family and I recently stayed in a Wilderness Cabin and we were really pleased with our experience. The cabins are filled with rustic charm and tons of wonderful wilderness touches. My favorites were some of the light fixtures in the bedroom and kitchen area.

The fully furnished cabins can sleep up to 6 adults with 1 queen bed and 1 bunk bed in the bedroom and 1 double-size sleeper sofa in the living room area. We had 4 adults and 2 kids on our recent stay and I felt like we had plenty of room for our party. My boys loved the bunk bed! They thought it was the neatest thing! Although we thought the room was a great fit for our family, I could see if you had 4 adults in the bedroom that it might be tight.

Across from the beds is a small set of drawers with a TV, closet area with curtain, ironing board and safe, and then a small countertop area and mirror. There is also a door in the bedroom so guests can exit the cabin without going through the main living room space. It's a nice feature if you don't want to disturb people sleeping on the sleeper sofa.

The one full bathroom is located right outside the bedroom. There's only one sink in the bathroom but there's lots of counter space which can be hard to come by in a lot of hotel rooms. The shower/tub combo has the refillable shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers. One downside about the bathroom is that it's not a split bath setup so more than one person can't get ready at once. 

The living room has the double-size sleeper sofa, TV, comfy chair and cabinets for storage on either side of the TV. The kitchen area has a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, sink, toaster, convection/microwave oven, and 2 countertop burners. The biggest thing the kitchen is missing is a true oven but there is a charcoal grill located outside. There's tons of storage space in the kitchen and all the dishes and cookware you may need to make a proper meal.

Outside each cabin is a private patio with picnic table and a parking spot if you plan to drive to the resort or if you want to rent a golf cart. If you are staying here more than a couple nights you'll most likely want to rent a golf cart. The resort is huge and some sections are not available by car so you'll either need to walk or take the internal bus system if you decide not to rent a golf cart.

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is home to one of my family's favorite dining experiences, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue! (Stay tuned for a review of the dining experience coming soon.) Located in Pioneer Hall, this dinner show is sure to delight. If you're staying at the Wilderness Cabins, it's a no brainer to book a dining reservation for the Hoop-Dee-Doo! 

If you're looking for a refuge from the hustle and bustle of a typical Walt Disney World vacation, a Wilderness Cabin is a great option! Although we only stayed there one night, I could easily see myself staying in a Wilderness Cabin on a future trip. It's a great option if you have a larger family and if you plan to spend more time at your resort. There are so many recreational options at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort like archery, pony rides, and fishing, that you could easily spend a week at the resort and never step foot in a theme park. 

Disney announced that these cabins will receive a refresh and are projected to reopen as a Disney Vacation Club Resort in 2024. The existing cabins will be replaced with more than 350 new cabins with an eye toward the environment, utilizing the footprint of the existing cabins and taking advantage of more energy-efficient features. Even though the cabins will reopen as a DVC resort, the cabins will continue to be open for reservations to all guests, including those who are not DVC members.
