Our family recently embarked on a cruise to Bermuda on the luxurious Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from nursing school. With a group of 6, we opted not to book any excursions as we had a two day stop in Bermuda and planned to explore the island on our own.
Upon arriving in Bermuda, we made our way to the Visitors Center in the dockyard to purchase transportation passes. These passes allowed us to utilize the ferry and buses throughout Bermuda. We acquired a two-day pass for $31.50 per person, with a discounted rate of $16.00 for children aged 5-16.
Meanwhile, my daughter and fiancé decided to rent a scooter from one of the many rental shops in the dockyard. Renting a scooter in Bermuda is an adventure in itself, as they test your driving skills before you hit the road. They also provide helmets for both the driver and passenger for safety measures. A friendly reminder; they drive on the opposite side of the road in Bermuda so caution is advised.
Hamilton's streets were lined with many charming shops, each building boasting vibrant colors that added to the town's beauty. During our stroll we couldn’t resist stopping at one of the many inviting restaurants to indulge in Bermuda's famous chicken sandwich and Rum Swizzle. Both treats were delicious and a must try when visiting this enchanting island.

While my daughter and her fiancé zipped off on their scooter to explore Hamilton, the rest of our group hopped on the ferry to meetup with them in the city. The ferry ride was a delightful experience, with perfect weather and stunning blue waters all around us. Upon reaching Hamilton, we popped in the visitor's center to grab a map before setting out on our adventure.

Our next destination was St. George, so we made our way to the bus station to catch the clearly marked bus for our journey. The ride was pleasant, and we took the opportunity to listen to the advice of the locals on the must-see attractions. After disembarking, we set off on foot towards the unfinished church, enjoying the picturesque walk despite the uphill climb. Later, we discovered that there are shuttles available for a small fee to take visitors up the hill.
A little history on the unfinished church. It was originally built as a replacement for an older church that was destroyed in a storm in the 19th century. Construction of the new church began in the 1870s but was never completed due to the financial difficulties and disagreements with the congregation. The church now is a tourist attraction and hosts many weddings. This is a must see while visiting the island.

Next, our group made the decision to venture towards Tobacco Bay. Just beyond a small hill lies the picturesque beach. Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed by a quaint restaurant where beach chairs can be rented for a relaxing day by the shore. Additionally, guests can indulge in a quick snack or refreshing drink while taking in the stunning surroundings. This picturesque beach, with its crystal-clear water is a paradise for snorkeling or sunbathing. Visitors can take a stroll along the pink beaches and soak up the sun. We enjoyed strolling along the rocky shore, marveling at the colorful tropical fish swimming in the cove.
After our time in Tobacco Bay, we made our way back to the dock to catch the ferry. While awaiting its arrival, we leisurely wandered around the charming shops lining the dock. It was truly a beautiful day on this enchanting island.
On Day 2 we decided to spend the day at Horseshoe Bay. Upon disembarking from the ship, we hopped onto a shuttle that whisked us away. Upon arrival we rented chairs and umbrellas for a day of relaxation on the beach. Snorkeling equipment was also available for rent, and we happily explored the crystal-clear waters. As we walked along the beach, we were captivated by the stunning scenery of pink sand and clear water that created a truly beautiful setting. Our day at the beach was simply delightful.

Upon returning to the dockyard, we opted to leisurely explore the area on foot instead of taking the shuttle. Our stroll led us to the charming Clocktower mall, a treasure trove of souvenirs and trinkets. With so much to see and explore we realized we didn't have time to take it all in. This only means another cruise to this island is definitely in our future!
