Resort Hopping - EPCOT Area

While the EPCOT resorts don’t have an eye-catching Monorail wizzing by, they are an easy walk around the lake apart which can be even better on a beautiful Florida day. If you take the Skyliner to EPCOT or exit EPCOT via the International Gateway (between UK and France) you are just moments away from some great resorts to explore. I typically just walk because it’s faster, but there is a Friendship Boat that will go from EPCOT’s International Gateway to Disney's Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Club, and the Swan and Dolphin before continuing on to Hollywood Studios.  Disney's Beach Club Resort Disney’s Beach Club is light and bright and has a few things worth stopping by for. Beaches and Cream out by the pool is a fast favorite, serving up burgers and shakes along with the famous Kitchen Sink sundae. But they also have a walk up ice cream window to grab a fun shake and stroll along the lake. During the holidays, pop inside the main lobby to see a Gingerbread carousel and get some h...

Throwback Thursday: Bon Voyage Breakfast

Once upon a time Disney’s newest character breakfast at Walt Disney World was the “Bon Voyage” Character breakfast at Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s Boardwalk.   You got not only a fabulous sit down meal, but you were able to meet and interact with a couple of Disney princesses, Ariel and Rapunzel, and also their rarely-seen mates, Eric and Flynn Ryder.   All four of these Disney characters are my oldest daughter’s favorites, so she was beside herself thinking that she could finally meet all of them at once when this debuted.   I was able to get my family a reservation so we could enjoy this meal and fulfill our princess dreams. When we first arrived at Trattoria, it was packed, so that was a good sign to me that this was going to be a great experience.   Once we were finally seated, our waitress greeted us, took our drink orders and told us how the characters would come by one at a time.   It wasn’t long before we had our first visitor, Rapunzel.   She wa...

Flying Fish Review

Flying Fish is one of my favorite little restaurants on Disney's BoardWalk. It’s my go to for a grown ups night out! The menu changes occasionally but each time I go back, I'm glad I did. Full disclosure, I am not a big fish person, but I love their nori bread and also enjoy the lobster with squid ink pasta.  The aesthetic is sleek dark blues and greys, with an impressive hanging glass work of art. It's enjoyable to have a view of my meal being made as well. Comments I’ve heard while introducing friends and family to Flying Fish include “These are the best scallops I’ve ever had” and “I wish this appetizer came in a meal portion. I want to lick the plate.” It’s environment is snazzy enough to dress up for, and comfortable enough to stop by last minute in your standard, laid back park attire. It is a signature dining experience however, so no swimsuits, tank tops, or flip flops are allowed. It’s not uncommon for me to notice a last minute reservation available, so if I’m nea...

Trattoria al Forno Dinner Review

Trattoria al Forno is an Italian restaurant on Disney's BoardWalk serving breakfast and dinner with an Italian flare.  For this meal, I chose to have dinner at this BoardWalk eatery. While it's of course easy for guests staying at Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Villas to dine here, it is also easily accessible via Epcot's International Gateway or Disney's Skyliner if you are looking for a change of pace one evening. While the restaurant is beautiful inside, it was a perfect Florida evening so I chose to dine outside on the BoardWalk and take in the evening, atmosphere, and the views. My server was friendly and approachable and helped guide me through my meal choices.  I chose to start my meal with a nice glass of wine and soon after bread service was brought out.   I then went with the seasonal salad which was quite sizable, fresh and delicious. Other appetizer choices include Italian favorites like calamari, minestrone soup and caprese salad.  For my main course, I...

Enjoy Dining, Entertainment and Shopping at Disney's BoardWalk

Disney’s BoardWalk is a quarter-mile of dining, entertainment and shopping located in the Epcot Resort area.  The BoardWalk is an area designed to make you feel like you are back in the early days of Coney Island and Atlantic City at the turn of the century. Even if you're not staying at the resort, this is a great place to visit during your vacation! In the daytime Disney’s BoardWalk is a quiet relaxed place. In early morning, you'll often find runners and other early risers enjoying the Epcot resort area as it wakes for a new day. In the evening, the BoardWalk really comes alive.  The lights, sounds, and entertainment help create a fun, energetic atmosphere that can't quite be described. The performers are at two different locations; one in front of the Screen Door General Store and the other across from the Flying Fish Restaurant. The International Gateway entrance for Epcot is a short, leisurely walk or boat ride away.  You can also take the pathway to walk to...
